Magic New w/ Extra Colors (0.3.8) - No editing needed.

Postby Pichoro on Mon Dec 24, 2007 11:28 pm

This is an often requested feature; the ability to use new colors. So I've done it. The new available colors are yellow, purple, orange, and brown. The yellow is by Zotoshibo, the brown is by Blau, the pink is by Shiv2503, and the purple and orange are from the old extended-magic template, made by artfreakwiu. But before you use it, there are some quirks about it that you should know about.

Note: This template does not replace Post 8th Magic. It is a completely separate template, like planeshifts, splits, or futureshifts.

You MUST run the magic-mana-small and magic-mana-large installers from here before installing this template!

Quirks:
1.) There are no hybrid mana symbols w/ yellow, pink or brown in them.
2.) If you try to do an 8 (or more) color hybrid, you will get multicolor.
3.) Although the hybrid box in the card color menu looks like its always choosable, you must choose atleast two colors to choose it.
4.) The P/T box color can be changed in the same way as card color.
5.) Non-default color choices in other templates will not carry over to this template when you change styles, nor will they carry over back to other templates from this style.
6.) You must have atleast previously had magic-new installed to use this template.
7.) Yellow, Orange, Brown, Pink and Purple mana will not work in mana or cost keyword parameters. The only way to fix it is to edit your game file and add "LPOEK" to the parameter match areas.
8.) Speaking of "LPOEK", L is yellow, P is purple, E is brown (don't ask), O (no, not zero) is orange, and K is pink.
9.) Yellow, purple, orange, pink, and brown cards will now sort as their own colors in "WUBRGLPOEK" order.
10.) Don't like my choices for yellow, purple, brown, pink or orange? Then you can replace the images with your own and it will still work.

Features:
- Purple, Orange, Yellow, Brown and Pink Frames and Mana Symbols
- "Spectral" Frame (Think Multicolor)
- Diagonal Hybrid Blend Type
- Planeswalker Loyalty Arrows in Rules Text (try "+1 loyalty" or "-1 loyalty")
- 5 Elemental Symbols in the P/T (try "A", "E", "F", "W" or "V")
- Snow Hybrid Mana Symbols
- "W/U/B/R/G" Mana Symbol
- Artifact Mana Symbol by Smr1313 (use letter "A")
- Colored Mana Symbol by Rusty Keyes (use letter "C")
- Lovecraft Watermarks
- Custom Watermarks by Ulxiz
- Jrzman's Mellis Brand Watermark
- Seekers of Carmot Watermark
- Planeswalker Symbol Watermark
- Chaos Symbol Watermark
- Phyrexia Symbol Watermark
- The Thran Symbol Watermark
- Rarity Symbol Watermarks
- Alpha Style Dual Land Blends

- A Styling Choice for the Combine Type of your Foil Gradients
- The Ability to Manually Control Each Piece of the Frame's Color Via the Styling Menu (see Dawnprism Battlemage Below)
- A Styling Choice for the Combine Type of your Overlay Hybrids

This template requires no editing of game, blends, or style files to use, and will have no negative effects on your other templates.

This template comes as an installer file now. If you are new to installers, all you have to do to use one is open it using MSE, or drop it on MSE.exe or a shortcut to MSE.exe. When you do, the program will automatically install the contents. It is also possible to change the ".mse-installer" file extension to ".zip" and extract the file like a zip.

NOTICE: FOILS ARE NO LONGER ON THIS PAGE. FIND THEM HERE.

No, absolutely not. I do this so that the normal and proper templates don't have to be tainted by all this bizarre and hacked in stuff.

Edit: A bit of clarification; some of this stuff I am considering adding to the official templates, like the code that lets it use foil gradients and snow hybrids. But other things are totally out, like other colored frames, artifact mana, most extra watermarks, and creator credits.

First, you have to have downloaded a foil gradient. There is one included with the template, and others available separately.

Then, once you're in the program and using the template, go to the Style tab. There will be an "Overlay" drop-down menu. This controls your foil gradients.

An update to this template.

Changes:
- New alpha style dual land blend, to use both frames to generate name bar and type bar.
- Support for "Treasure" cards. Also has a Poison vial icon. See "Scrying Mirror" above.

Now hosting regular foil layer separately, as well as packed in magic-new-extra.

I have two snippet of that will allow one to change the type of overlay (combine) type and was wondering if it could be put in the official version.

Code: Select all
styling field:
   type: choice
   name: overlay combine type
description: What type of combine should the overlay use? Only works if overlay is enabled.
   initial: normal
   choice: normal
   choice: add
   choice: subtract
   choice: stamp
   choice: difference
   choice: negation
   choice: multiply
   choice: darken
   choice: lighten
   choice: color dodge
   choice: color burn
   choice: overlay
   choice: hard light
   choice: soft light
   choice: reflect
   choice: glow
   choice: heat
   choice: and
   choice: or
   choice: xor
   choice: shadow
   choice: symmetric overlay

Code: Select all
   foil layer:
      left: 0
      top : 0
      width: 375
      height: 523
      z index: 5
      render style: image
      image: {if styling.overlay == "" then nil else set_combine(input: styling.overlay + "/overlay.png", combine: styling.overlay_combine_type)}

This is a great resource, thank you so much. If I can make one request, any chance of getting Planeswalkers templated in the four new colors?

I would only consider it if someone made the extra frames (I can't). And even then, I would only consider it, because frankly, this template is a pain. Two of them would be really bad.

I have a problem... the darn file won't install right! I get to the install screen and then... nothing. Think you could explain it in a way that's so easy a paleo-human could do it?

Well, first you must follow the really big blue text instructions in the first post. I don't care if you already have them because you got them from your first MSE installer - you need to go get the updated versions.

After that, I have no idea. Make sure you're installing all the packages in the installer?

...Yeah, I already tried that, but all it said was that I needed the most recent version because the one you link to is "Out Of Date". O.O
