Magic Small Plain style - now including Flip

Postby Idle Muse on Thu May 15, 2008 7:56 am

This is a tiny little template I knocked up last night. It was intended as a stlye for printing use primarily, as the cards are small, and monochrome. It does not use art, or card frames, but merely shows the core information of a card.

The font is selectable, from a variety of common system fonts (serif or sans).

Sample:

Now there is a flip template as well. It's simple, and the bottom half isn't actually upside down, but fits with my purpose in this style.

EDIT: This style has been updated to, and requires 0.3.6b, which can be downloaded from the official download page. It now includes the ability to use ANY symbol fonts, as seen on most Magic styles, and printing will now work for compressed fields. The 'Mythic rare' rarity is also available. If you notice errors in the way of large black rectangular shapes where they shouldn't be, it is likely you haven't got 0.3.6b, only 0.3.6, and need to update your MSE version.

It is posted in the form of an mse-installer. Simply download, and double click to begin the installation process.

magic-mana-circless.mse-symbol-font is the default symbol font for this style, and can be downloaded from the Mana Font Thread. If you don't have it and don't want it, you can just use any other symbol font by choosing it on the style tab.

Well, after tagging this template and adding it to my data folder, boy, did I get a shock. 0.3.6 definetly does not like what you did to generate those divider lines. Might I suggest two separate fields, or one field masked? An image of what happens in 0.3.6 is attached for your viewing displeasure. ;)

Crazy... All it is a colour field with the left and right widths set to zero. Pretty easy to replicate with two fields, though I have no idea why this behaviour occurs...

Yeah, its pretty good like that. What I'm currently using this for is creating little reminder cards for my Cube; Its a casual cube for a casual group, but a fair number of the cards in it are foriegn. What I'm in the process of doing is typing them out onto these little bits of paper, which can be cut out and slipped into the sleeve so people can understand what the cards do.

Bump for update: I threw together a flip verison in half an hour (for the German Bushi Tenderfoot in my cube). It is added to the end of the first post.

This template is awesome. Great Job. Just one problem. When I print, sometimes a name doesn't fit in the box. eg. Temple of the False God: In MSE it seems as though it fits, but when you actually print it, it shows up as 'Temple of the False G' with the 'o' half-in and half-out of the box, while the 'd' doesn't even show up. Is there a solution to this or is there a limit on the number of letters you can have. Thanks.

This is a problem with the MSE program, not with the template. It will be fixed in the next update, but for the time being, I recommend that you export the card images via the Export/All Card Images... command, and just drag them all into MSWord, or whatever your choice of DtP software is. This gets around the problem, and you can print just fine, up to 25 per sheet.

Updated to 0.3.6b. The hotfix version IS REQUIRED to use it, as it fixes a fairly important bug that allows the divider lines to be drawn correctly.

Pichoro, could you please move this into the 0.3.6 forum area?

Upon loading the flip version of this template, I receive a warning that although magic-mana-white is used, a dependancy is not given.

bleurgh. Its not even a 'large' usage - it just uses it to render the choice symbols for the tap symbol choice.

EDIT: Fixed.

I really like this style, I'd like to use it as a playtest template and for etc. But I'm having some problems with your installer. Could you upload the ZIPs without the installer for me?

(I can't click "install," it remains on "don't install" no matter what I do. I'm in Windows 2000.)

Actually, the installer is just a glorified zip. Change the file extension from ".mse-installer" to ".zip", and extract it just like you would a zip. You'll have all the folders and files, and one garbage file that serves as a manifest.
