Fluxx (0.3.8)

Postby RoaTheEternal on Sun Jun 17, 2007 8:46 am

Fluxx is a card game by Looney Labs

Since the readme is no longer included in the download, I'm posting it here:

Fluxx template for MSE
version 5.0
Author: RoaTheEternal

Version History
---------------
-Version 5.1
  • Martian Fluxx and German Fluxx styles added. Thank you to Shiv2503 for blanking the German Fluxx cards. The fonts required for Geman Fluxx are now included in the font download.
  • Meta Rule and Ungoal icons for Japanese Fluxx changed. Again, thank you to Shiv2503 for creating the icons.
-Version 5.0
  • Meta Rule card type added to all styles. Warning box is an option for Meta Rules.
  • Option to use two image fields for goals (and ungoals) added.
-Version 4.2
  • Monty Python Fluxx style added. Thank you to Ian from the MSE forums for providing the KotRT icon and identifying the card-type text font.
-Version 4.1
  • Bulleted lists (as seen on Zombie Boss) added (typing * will create a bullet)
-Version 4.0
  • Ungoal card type added to all styles and has all the same options as Goals
  • Keepers and Creepers now have only 3 styles: top and bottom, right, and left. The image field will resize as text is added when set to "top and bottom." This change will require updating of all sets (You will get an error about "no text," "bottom" or "top" not being defined. It should default to "top and bottom" (check just to make sure) and all you need to do is save the set)
  • Resizing Image also added to Goals (and Ungoals) instead of the "all text" style option
  • Zombie Fluxx style added (with style option to add "Zombie Related" dripping to the name bar)
  • "Keeper type" (weapons, food, ect.) icon field added to all styles along with a statistics option
  • A legal warning box (as seen in Stoner Fluxx) has been added as a style option (will only appear on New Rules and Actions)
  • A 1 pixel black border (without rounded corners) has been added to all base images
  • Icons added for both statistics options
  • Japanese Fluxx style added
-Version 3.0
  • Creeper card type added to all 3 styles. Creepers have the same options as Keepers.
  • Note: All sets made with any 2.X version should work with this version.
-Version 2.2
  • Eco Fluxx and Family Fluxx styles added
-Version 2.1
  • Card list colors now exactly the same color as the name bars
  • Card type statistic now color coded (exactly the same as name bar)
-Version 2.0
  • Changes for new MSE 0.3.4 abilities
    • Goal/Keeper styles now on style page due to individual card styling
  • Major changes to how the template works
    • All card types are in a single style file. This means that you will need to re make any sets that you have already made. Sorry about that.
    • Text alignment on keepers is correct for all types.
  • Colored card list (same as name bars)
  • High resolution (300 dpi) card back included for your convenience
-Version 1.1
  • Added "Top" and "All Text" options to the Keeper Type field and selection field added to Goal style (for the creation of "5 Keepers" and "10 Cards in Hand" style goals)
  • Changed the alignment of text in the "Top", "Right", and "Top & Bottom"(top part) Keepers to middle left. Will be scripted when MSE2 0.3.4 comes out (middle left for "Right", top left for others)
-Version 1.0
  • Initial Release.

Installation
------------
-Run the installer using MSE2 (version 0.3.6 or later) or Copy the .mse-game, .mse-include, and .mse-style folders into the "data" folder of your MSE installation.
-Extract the font file to your fonts folder

Bugs and Quirks
---------------
-(quirk)Keepers with text use 2 text fields. The "right", "left", and "top and bottom"(top field only) styles use a multi-line text field. "Top and bottom"(bottom field only) uses a single line text field. Changing style will only keep text visible if the text field is shared. (Text in the bottom text field will not be visible if style is changed to "right" or "left". Text fields will remain set even if not visible however)
-(quirk)The keeper type icon field is editable even when not visible.
-(quirk) The name bar in the Japanese style uses a vertical alignment which acts oddly with spaces, so just leave them out when using this style.
-If you find a bug, PLEASE report it in this thread.

Future Options
--------------
- 1st edition Fluxx style.
- Prototype (0.5 edition) Fluxx style (possibly).
- Make requests in this thread.

I've had no experience with this game, but its certainly important to encourage anyone making their new templates. So I've put up a link to this on MSE's own download page.

I'll likely advertise it at the salvation forums next time I post there as well.

Thank you

You have done a very good job with the cards. I have only experimented a little with it so far however. This is the sole reason I got the program. Since the blank cards are sold out this is a most exelent replacement.
Once more thank you.

Oh and I do believe a black border would be nice.

Also you wouldn't happan to have the pictures from the fluxx deck accessible somewhere? If you could legaly add them to the template they would be a great help in making new cards.

I don't know how they design creepers, never seen one, however it seems to me as if they would benefit if you replaced the picture slot with a textslot and a picture slot, as it is difficult to give instructions as to the effects of that creeper otherwise. Even if I might be completely off on this one.

This post is mainly to announce that I should be receiving my copy of Zombie Fluxx on Monday or soon after. I don't know when I'll have access to a scanner, so I don't know when I'll be able to post the Zombie Fluxx style. There will be game file adjustments required as well as a modification of all of the existing styles. I may wait to release until MSE2 0.3.6 is released, (so full compatibility can (hopefully) be assured) and I will probably release using the new .mse-installer files.

I will probably add this to the next version of the styles. (it's a very minor change)

Also you wouldn't happan to have the pictures from the fluxx deck accessible somewhere? If you could legaly add them to the template they would be a great help in making new cards.

I do not have the images available and would definitely ask for permission before making them available. (Especially since Zombie Fluxx's art was not done by a LL employee) While I agree that it would be useful, some simple image editing would still be needed for goals and I'd be worried about people creating full copies of the existing decks.

You are a bit off. Creepers in my template work exactly the same as Keepers. On the Style tab, there is an option named "Keeper Style" that gives the options of:
  • No Text - The default
  • Top - Text above the image. Allows for the same amount of text as on a Goal card
  • Bottom - A single line of text bellow the image (For "counts as" keepers like The Star and Earth)
  • Top and Bottom - Two lines of text above and one below the image (you can actually add more text to the top, but it will overlap the image.)
  • Right - Text to the right of the image (like Poison from Eco Fluxx)
I may add a "Left" option as well in the next version (not done officially yet, but it adds flexibility.

I'll end this post with what (nontrivial changes) I'm planning for the next version of the template:
  • Zombie Fluxx style added
  • "Keeper type" field (weapons, food, ect) added to game file and all styles
  • Ungoal type added to all styles (Another new card type in Zombie Fluxx)

Good work on this. I've played fluxx since the early editions, and now I finally realised a theme for a custom set. Pity I can't use this template yet!

Hurry up 3.6 is all I can say...

It should be possible to make a temporary fix for a workable version, if you remove the "shrink-overflow" from the offending text fields. I would think, anyway.
I don't want to have a signature... :(

Yeah, *smacks self* turns out I hadn't updated to the most recent version - still using one of the 2.x versions. Its just the vert text shrink bug that I myself encountered now, rather than total-systems failure.

Good enough to start Discworld fluxx at least.

Roa, do you mind if I create custom Fluxx styles based on your style files?
