Plain text exporter

Postby Idle Muse on Wed Oct 15, 2008 9:34 am

This is a simple export template that writes a basic text file with each card name in the set on a new line.

I plan to extend it later to cover a wider range of possibilities for raw text export.

To install, simply download, and then double-click to run the installer, and click OK a few times on the MSE window that appears.

EDIT: New version includes an option that will export cards in a forum-style format, ideal for posting straight onto the MSE forums, complete with formatting tags!

New option added: forum export. Exports a text file containing soemthing like this:

Code: Select all
Crop Farmer 3W
Creature — Human Serf  (r)
When Crop Farmer comes into play, sacrifice a land. Search your library for a land card and put that card into play. Then shuffle your library.
1/1

Feudal Lord 1WW
Creature — Human Samurai  (c)
Bushido 2 (When this blocks or becomes blocked, it gets +2/+2 until end of turn.)
2/2

Trained Villager W
Creature — Human Samurai  (c)
Bushido 2 (When this blocks or becomes blocked, it gets +2/+2 until end of turn.)
0/1

Apprentice Thief U
Creature — Human Ninja  (c)
Ninjutsu 0 (0, Return an unblocked attacker you control to hand: Put this card into play from your hand tapped and attacking.)
1/1

Dusklight Ninja 1UU
Creature — Human Ninja  (c)
Ninjutsu U (U, Return an unblocked attacker you control to hand: Put this card into play from your hand tapped and attacking.)
2/2

Bell-ringer B
Creature — Human Monk  (c)
Focus 1 (When this creature comes into play, look at the top card of your library. You may reveal one. If you do, remove it from the game and shuffle your library. This creature is focussed on the removed card.)
T: Target creature gains haste until end of turn. Play this ability only if the focus card’s converted mana cost is greater than zero.
1/1

Shrine-tender Monk 1BB
Creature — Human Monk  (c)
Focus 3 (When this creature comes into play, look at the top three cards of your library. You may reveal one. If you do, remove it from the game and shuffle your library. This creature is focussed on the removed card.)
Shrine-tender Monk gets +X/+X, where X is the focus card’s converted mana cost.
2/2

Rising Dust 2R
Sorcery (u)
Creatures can’t block this turn.

Sandstorm Rider 1RR
Creature — Human Mercenary  (c)

Two target creatures must attack or block this turn if able.

Temple Guardian 1GG

Are those tabs delimiting the fields? Do you want all the line breaks stripped out of the rule text?

not sure, and yes if that's possible so each card comes out on one line, making sure all the parameter are tabbed.

This should be fairly easy then. I'll probably get round to it sometime this week.

Is there a way to specify custom export formats?

I'd like to use this to generate a text spoiler of a set to then be parsed by some PHP scripts. However, currently some fields are missing like collector number and artist. I was using the "Export for MWS" option, but they don't support mythic rarity.

What would be seriously awesome would be something akin to an XML format specification, where you can control what values are printed and how they're printed out. But that's just wishful thinking.

Incidentally, I'm trying to find where the package is installed do so I can play with tweaking it myself to include the extra fields, but I'm not having any luck finding it. Where does it get installed to?

Thanks for a great tool!

I replied to your post in the main forum, Seeonee, with what should be the the location of the template.
I don't want to have a signature... :(
